How we build pages

Which pages we publish

We publish a page when search data shows that people are asking a question, for example about earthquakes near a particular city. We do not create a page for every place or event that appears in the data.

Where the facts come from

Every fact on a page comes from a named source, listed on our data sources page. For warnings, watches and forecasts we restate the official product. We do not make our own forecasts, and we do not say that a place is safe unless an official source says so.

How current the pages are

We check each source automatically every few minutes and update a page when its data changes. Every page shows when its source was last checked. If a source stops responding, the page says that its data is delayed.

Times and units

Times are shown in the local time of the place the page is about, with the time zone. Distances are shown in kilometers and miles.
